Bijoux de Famille
Compositing • Retouching • VFX
Description
Bijoux de Famille is one of the nine short films that make up Salope je t'aime, a sketch film produced by 18 Jours and carried by nine female directors. Directed by Alice Moine, in her first time behind the camera, this segment tells the unexpected friendship between an overly reserved home carer and a dependent, cantankerous old man who never recovered from his break-up. An intimate, bittersweet encounter between comedy and drama, in the iconoclastic vein championed by producer Frédéric Marboeuf.
As Flame Artist, I handled the compositing, retouching and VFX work of the short film in Autodesk Flame, within the post-production run by McMurphy and supervised by post-producer Sébastien Gros. The goal was to enhance the image while preserving the realistic tone and intimacy of Alice Moine's direction.
The work covered shot finishing, colour harmonisation, targeted retouching and the VFX needed by the story, with a premium finish consistent with the rest of the feature. Every intervention had to serve the emotion and the relationship between the two characters, never betraying the sincerity of the segment.

Challenges & Solutions
VFX in Service of an Intimate Story
Bijoux de Famille relies on realistic direction and an intimate relationship between two characters. Any overly visible effect would have broken the sincerity and bittersweet tone of the segment.
I carried out the VFX and retouching in Flame with a discreet, controlled approach, designed to enhance the image without ever distracting from the actors' performance or the emotion of the encounter.
Image Consistency Within a Choral Film
The short had to hold its place among nine segments directed by nine different directors, each with its own aesthetic, while meeting the feature's finishing standards.
Careful compositing and finishing in Flame ensured a homogeneous, premium image, faithful to the original photography and consistent with the whole of Salope je t'aime.
Retouching and Colour Harmonisation
Tints had to be unified, imperfections corrected and shots harmonised to deliver a clean, cinematic result worthy of a theatrical release.
I carried out precise retouching and fine colour harmonisation in Flame, preserving the light and the natural atmosphere of the scenes intended by the director.
